Fire bricks are a special type of building material capable of withstanding high-temperature environments, widely used in the furnace linings of industries such as metallurgy, building materials, and chemicals. Their manufacturing materials are not simply clay, but rather a carefully proportioned blend of various refractory raw materials, depending on the specific application.
Main Raw Material Composition
The core raw materials of fire bricks come from natural minerals or artificially synthesized materials, mainly including three categories:
1. Alumina-silica materials
These are the most common refractory raw materials, primarily composed of aluminum oxide (Al₂O₃) and silicon dioxide (SiO₂).
– Refractory clay: Al₂O₃ content between 30%-48%, used to manufacture ordinary fire bricks.
– High alumina bauxite: Al₂O₃ content reaching 48%-75%, the main raw material for manufacturing high-alumina fire bricks.
– Silica: SiO₂ content exceeding 95%, used to manufacture silica bricks
2. Basic materials
Mainly used to resist the erosion of alkaline slag:
– Magnesia: The main component is magnesium oxide (MgO), the main raw material for magnesia fire bricks.
– Dolomite: Contains magnesium oxide and calcium oxide, used to manufacture dolomite fire bricks
3. Special materials
Used in extreme working environments:
– Silicon carbide: Possesses excellent thermal conductivity and wear resistance
– Zircon: Excellent high-temperature resistance and corrosion resistance
– Chromite: Used to manufacture chrome-magnesia fire bricks
The Crucial Role of the Manufacturing Process
In addition to raw material selection, the manufacturing process is also crucial. These raw materials undergo several processes, including crushing, batching, mixing, molding, drying, and high-temperature firing. In kilns exceeding 1300℃, the raw materials undergo a series of physicochemical changes, ultimately forming refractory products with a stable crystal structure.
It is through the scientific proportioning of different raw materials and precise production processes that fire bricks can maintain structural stability at high temperatures, providing reliable protection for various industrial furnaces and ensuring the safe operation of production equipment.
