Corundum bricks are high-performance refractory materials with alumina (Al₂O₃) as the main crystalline phase. Due to their excellent high-temperature resistance, erosion resistance, and wear resistance, they are widely used in many key industrial fields, serving as “guardians” of high-temperature equipment.
Their core application areas are mainly concentrated in the following aspects:
1. Petrochemical Industry
This is one of the most core application areas for corundum bricks. In key equipment such as synthetic ammonia gasification furnaces, ethylene cracking furnaces, and carbon black reactors, the furnace environment often simultaneously presents high temperatures (up to 1700℃ or higher), high pressure, strong reducing atmospheres, and the scouring effect of high-speed airflow. Corundum bricks, especially chromium corundum bricks with added chromium oxide, effectively resist the damage from molten slag and high-speed airflow due to their excellent slag erosion resistance and structural stability, significantly extending equipment life and successfully replacing imported products in many cases.
2. Iron and Steel Metallurgy Industry
In the metallurgical industry, corundum bricks are used in key parts such as blast furnace bodies, hot blast stoves, and ladle refining furnaces. These devices need to withstand extremely high mechanical wear and chemical corrosion from high-temperature molten iron and slag. The high strength and excellent resistance to molten metal corrosion of corundum bricks make them a crucial material for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of steel production.
3. Glass and Ceramic Industries
Due to their extremely low contamination of molten glass, certain types of corundum bricks (such as cast α-β corundum bricks) are used in key structures such as the cooling tank walls and flow channels of glass melting furnaces, effectively preventing glass contamination and ensuring product quality. Furthermore, they are widely used in the linings and kiln furniture of high-temperature tunnel kilns and shuttle kilns in the ceramic industry.
4. Other High-Temperature Industries
Corundum bricks are also used in many other applications requiring resistance to extreme high temperatures and chemical corrosion, such as non-ferrous smelting, waste incinerators, and high-temperature kilns in the electronics industry.
